Adult Book Study

Adult Bible Study Resumes

On Monday, September 11, at 6:00 PM we will begin discussing the book, Parables and Passion, by John Indermark.  The study is meant for Lent, but can be used at any time.  In fact, some of us have already read this book and discussed it as a Lenten study in 2022, so you probably still have the book.  If you did take part in that study, you may find it to be a good refresher, and you may be able to add some new thoughts for the larger group.

The five-day format throughout the book will be that we read a new parable and a three-page reading related to that parable.  Each Monday evening we will discuss the weekly theme presented by the parables.  Taken together, the parables show us how life can be lived in God’s kingdom - kindom, the primary lesson of Jesus’ parables.  As Indermark put it, the parables “provide a transparency to see the whole of our lives – and the holy in our lives – in a new way.”

The study will take seven weeks: one week as introduction, and then six weeks of study and reflection.  The book can be purchased through Thriftbooks, Christianbook, Amazon, Upper Room Books, Barnes and Noble, and Cokesbury.  Prices and shipping costs will vary.

We meet by Zoom, so if you have not already taken part in previous studies, you will need to register with your email address, so that you can be included.  Please sign up with Marilyn Ayer, at marilyn.ayer@yahoo.com.  You can then receive an invitation to sign on to the group each time we meet.
